What is Integrative Therapy?
Integrative Therapy: Tailored Approach to Psychotherapy with Unique Insights into Human Behaviour
The Counselling Directory explains that "Integrative therapy, Integrative counselling is a combined approach to psychotherapy that brings together different elements of specific therapies rather than using just one single approach".
As an online Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) myself, I was curious to learn more about the work of an Integrative Counsellor and how this therapeutic approach can really help individuals towards their recovery goals.
It is a therapy that integrates a wider variety of theories in order to tailor therapy to the individual with their different personality traits and needs. Considering their behavioural, cognitive and psychological systems and how they each affect the individual.
The central belief of integrative counselling is that there are many ways in which human functioning can be explored and understood. This means integration can occur through a variety of techniques, which may include humanistic therapies, psychoanalytical and psychodynamic therapies and CBT.
Each approach offers an explanation and insight into human behaviour, as well as a unique understanding of key factors that will result in changes to behaviour and other areas of functioning such as cognition and emotions.
Here Gabriella Clarke speaks about her work as an Integrative Counsellor.
"I am an online Integrative Counsellor as I don’t believe there is a ‘one method fits all’ approach when it comes to assisting people with their mental health. I provide the modality of therapy best suited to the individual needs and circumstances of my clients.
Therapy with me works in a holistic manor where I take into consideration your emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing.
I will be understanding and respectful of your situation and try my best to support you along your journey. I provide a safe space in which you feel comfortable to express your thoughts and emotions.
Everything discussed and explored in the sessions remains confidential both during and after your course of therapy.
Sometimes I set work for you to do outside of the sessions that may encourage self-exploration and self-reflection, help change unwanted thoughts and beliefs, and help facilitate over all change in your life or state of being. "
