Chris Osgerby
Systemic family and couples psychotherapist.
Pronouns - He/Him
I am a highly experienced systemic family and couples psychotherapist and supervisor. I have over 20 years experience working with children, young people and their families in child and adolescent mental health. I also have extensive experience working with couples and families with adult children.
I have a passionate interest in helping families where there is a child or young person who is facing difficulties including those associated with anxiety, depression, autistic spectrum conditions, ADHD or challenging behaviour. I also have extensive experience working with the difficulties that can arise following adoption or where there is a history of attachment difficulties. I am interested in the different stages and transitions that families go through such as when children start at secondary school or when it comes to the time when young people begin to leave the family home.
I am also very interested and experienced in working with couples, perhaps where there are issues in relation to trust, communication and intimacy. I also enjoy working individually with men. As is well-known, men can find it difficult to discuss their worries and concerns. This can be at least in part due to societal expectations that men 'get on with things' and avoid displaying any vulnerability, which can in turn lead to problems becoming overwhelming. Men often don't have the same kind of social support networks as women, and so perhaps have less access to the 'listening ear' of friends when things get difficult.
What is systemic family therapy? Family therapy, also known as systemic psychotherapy, is a way of working with people to enable them to make changes and understand difficulties in the different contexts in which they may occur, whether that be in relation to family, friends, work or school. The focus of the work is often to help family members to explore difficult feelings and understand and appreciate each person’s perspective so that together they can come to an agreed solution.
I encourage you to get in touch either by phone or email so that we can discuss the difficulties you are currently having and what may be a helpful way to proceed.

What is a Systemic family and couples psychotherapist?
A Systemic Family and Couples Psychotherapist is a mental health professional who specialises in understanding and treating psychological issues within the context of relationships and family systems.
Rather than focusing solely on the individual, systemic therapy considers the complex web of relationships, patterns, and dynamics that shape a person's experiences. This type of therapist works with families and couples to identify how these systemic factors contribute to the problems they face.
Through therapy sessions, they facilitate conversations that explore roles, rules, and beliefs that govern the system, with the aim of uncovering and addressing relational patterns that lead to dysfunction. They assist clients in developing healthier ways of interacting, communicating, and solving problems.
The therapist's goal is to promote understanding and empathy among family members or partners, leading to positive changes and enhanced relationships.
