Daniella Doon-Joseph

BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT)

Pronouns: She/her

My name is Daniella and I’m a BABCP accredited Cognitive Behaviour Therapist with more than 17 years of experience in mental health.

I'm originally from the warm, sunny twin island Republic of Trinidad & Tobago, studied Psychology in Barbados, spent 18 months in Massachusetts (USA) for a clinical internship and then moved to the UK to pursue my M.Sc. in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. Living and learning about different cultures has helped me to become a more inclusive, culturally adaptive therapist.

As a therapist, I’ve worked in a range of diverse settings such as residential as a Clinical Counselor supporting children and young adults; academia as a Lecturer and Clinical Supervisor helping to build strong foundations for trainee therapists; and in the NHS for many years as CBT Therapist, Clinical Supervisor and Perinatal Lead providing individual and group therapy.

I have extensive experience working with depression, trauma, anxiety, self-esteem and long-term health conditions. I have a special interest in maternal mental health and helping families with food allergies to thrive.

The main therapeutic approaches I use in my clinical practice are Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Mindfulness.

Compassionate collaboration is how I would describe my approach. I am mindful that we learn and process information in diverse ways, so I’ll adapt therapy to you – carefully selecting exercises, techniques and tools to help you gain the maximum benefit from our time together. I want to help you learn how to navigate your current difficulties so that you can live a fulfilling and meaningful life.

What is CBT?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an evidenced based & well researched talking therapy. It is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for many mental health problems.

It is most commonly used to treat anxiety and depression, but can be useful for many other mental and physical health problems.

CBT focuses upon how your thoughts and behaviours impact upon your emotions and physical symptoms.

CBT is collaborative treatment and typically involves doing homework tasks between appointments.

It aims to teach you to become your own therapist, teaching you tools so you can keep using the strategies and techniques you have learned after you have finished therapy.
