What is a Counsellor?
A Counsellor is a trained professional who provides a safe, confidential space for individuals to discuss their thoughts and feelings. They actively listen, offer empathy and guidance, and create a supportive environment. Counsellors specialise in various areas, prioritise the client's well-being, and promote mental and emotional health. They undergo education and training, focusing on holistic well-being and client-centered approaches.
What is an EMDR Therapist?
EMDR Stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing.
When a person experiences psychological trauma or highly stressful events, they are not always able to process the relevant information (i.e. thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations). As a result, they can end up getting “stuck” inside of them and can resurface later on, as if the person was still reliving the traumatic or stressful event.
EMDR aims to ‘process’ negative experiences or events which can subsequently improve emotional well-being and help to significantly reduce, but more often eliminate distressing symptoms and bodily sensations associated with the trauma.
In 2013, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has also acknowledged EMDR as being an effective treatment approach to psychological trauma and trauma-related disorders.
What is Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy?
Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) is an evidence-based and effective form of treatment for children who have experienced developmental trauma and attachment difficulties, often associated with early life abuse, neglect, and unstable caregiving environments.
Developed by Dr. Daniel Hughes, DDP focuses on creating and strengthening secure attachment patterns between a child and their caregiver through interactive and relational processes. It emphasizes the importance of attunement, empathy, and responsive communication, aiming to help the child develop trust, safety, and a positive sense of self and others. This therapy is particularly suited for foster, adopted children, or those in the child welfare system.
