DR Matina SotrillI
Senior Counselling Psychologist
Pronouns - She/Her
Matina provides online psychological therapy and counselling sessions to clients with a wide variety of mental health issues ranging from everyday difficulties and transitions in life, such as; Low self esteem, divorce, redundancies, bullying, loss, moving countries, to more established diagnoses and chronic symptoms such as; Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, trauma (& PTSD), personality disorders.
Matina started working in the NHS in 2000 (South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust), and completed a top up Doctorate degree at City University of London in 2006. She has more than 17 years experience in senior positions within the NHS and private organisations. She is trained in the application of several therapeutic models and specialises in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and third wave CBT, including Mindfulness and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT).
She believes that peoples’ needs are very specific and cannot always be met by one therapeutic model. She would therefore always choose the best suited type of therapy according to their presenting problem and expectations from therapy in order to maximise their benefit.
Matina is involved in teaching, supervising trainees and qualified psychologists. She is an accredited member of British Psychological Society (BPS) and The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and abides by their code of conduct and ethics.
She believes that the most important component in therapy is the establishment of a strong therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client. This can enable people not only to overcome difficulties, dilemmas, symptoms and obstacles in life but often empowers people to engage in a very positive journey of self knowledge, control and growth.
