Dr Shaw is a qualified Clinical Psychologist, registered with the Health Care and Professions Council (HCPC). She has worked within a range of NHS mental health settings for 18 years including; outpatient departments, acute inpatient wards and the community. She offers therapeutic work for adults with a range of emotional difficulties, including anxiety disorders and depression. She has a particular interest in working with individuals who present with symptoms of psychological trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
In her current NHS role, Dr Shaw works with adults in a secondary care mental health setting, at a senior level. She provides assessment, formulation and interventions to individuals presenting with a wide range of complex psychological problems including trauma, childhood sexual abuse, OCD, complex anxiety disorders, attachment and relationship problems and difficulties with emotional regulation. Her role also involves the provision of supervision and consultation to other mental health professionals within her team.
Prior to training as a Clinical Psychologist, Dr Shaw worked within primary care Adult Mental Health services, as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist. Her role involved using a CBT approach to treat a range of anxiety disorders and depression, with working aged adults. She is accredited with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
