My values. I am passionate about working in trauma-informed care and using a whole-person approach. Trauma can have a huge impact and often underpin mental health difficulties. I can work with you to help you process the source of your difficulties or to focus on your current symptoms. Some people often wish to focus on their current experiences of anxiety or depression, while others wish to focus on the underlying factors that may have led them to have these. I will always work in a trauma-informed practice, and I am rather interested in "what has happened to you” rather than what is wrong with you."
Special interest along with my passion for working with complex mental health problems and complex trauma. I have a special interest in GAD and OCD.

What is CBT?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a scientifically backed psychological treatment proven effective for a range of mental health issues. It is a collaborative approach where therapists and clients work together to understand and address problems by examining the interplay between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. CBT focuses on identifying automatic thoughts and beliefs that influence emotions and actions, aiming to alter negative patterns to improve mental health.
The therapy encompasses both cognitive and behavioral techniques. Cognitively, it helps individuals become more aware of their thought processes and challenges distorted perceptions they have about themselves, others, and the world. Behaviorally, it addresses how individuals react to distress, such as through avoidance or unhelpful behaviors, and aims to change these responses to reduce distress and enhance coping skills.
CBT is goal-oriented, focusing on present issues while acknowledging the role of past experiences. It emphasizes the development of specific skills for problem-solving and coping that clients can apply in their daily lives. This involves homework assignments between sessions to practice these skills, ensuring continuous progress and adaptation of strategies to achieve the best outcomes. CBT's efficacy crosses diverse demographics, making it a versatile tool for improving mental health regardless of an individual's background.
What is Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy?
EMDR is a psychological therapy for the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It is designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. EMDR facilitates the accessing and processing of traumatic memories to bring these to an adaptive resolution. After successful treatment with EMDR, emotional distress is relieved, negative beliefs are reformulated, and anxiety is reduced.
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing integrates elements of many effective psychotherapies in structured protocols that are designed to maximise treatment effects. The effectiveness of EMDR for PTSD has been demonstrated by research, and EMDR is recommended as an evidence-based procedure by the British Department of Health, among other professional bodies.
