Vickey Maddrell
Integrated Therapist
I trained at Liverpool John Moores University and obtained the qualification PGDip (Post Grduate Diploma) in Counselling and Psychotherapy Practice. My training was primarily in Person Centred Therapy. This is a form of talking therapy with the individual being the expert in themselves.
How online counselling can help
When we talk to a trained therapist they are listening very carefully to what we say, how we are saying it and watching our body language. If you say something that seems very significant or your body language shows a conflict with your words the therapist will gently highlight your words back to you, or point out your body language to you, so that you can explore that further. It is also very good for our mental health to offload what is going on for us or what has happened in our past.
Person Centred Therapy puts you at the core of your own therapy, the direction of the therapy is completely your choice, you choose what to talk about and what is important for you. You can choose not to talk about certain areas of your life if you don't feel comfortable doing so.
Alongside this we can explore the way you feel emotions through Emotion Focused Therapy, we can do what is termed chair work where you direct your words at a chair as if a person you want to talk to is in it. I also offer relaxation, hypnotherapy and discussion work to find ways to help you to find ways to reduce stress and anxiety without resorting to medication.
What to expect from your first session with Vickey
During your session we will talk about what you want from your therapy. We will also discuss if you want a set number of sessions or wish to leave the amount of sessions open with a review every 6 sessions. I offer short term therapy of 2-6 sessions as well as long term therapy for those they feel they need more room to talk. During your first session we will talk about the the type(s) of therapy that may benefit you and and we can decide if we are a good fit to work together.
Sessions are 50 minutes long, we would use these sessions primarily for you to talk with my reflections and gentle challenges to make sure you hear yourself. With discussion you may choose for me to use one of the other types of therapy I offer alongside Person Centred Counselling during your sessions such as hypnotherapy or relaxation.
About me:
